Introduce Yourself
Hello, and welcome to Stoa Central.
I thought I'd create this thread as a place to allow people to introduce themselves. Feel free to reply below with a short introduction.
To get the conversation started, you might share a few of these (answer as many or as few as you'd like):
- How did you discover Stoicism?
- How long have you been following this philosophy? Are you completely involved, or just a passive reader?
- What are you hoping to gain here?

Hello, everyone, I'm Matt, the creator of StoaCentral.
Prior to this, I had built MettaStoic, with the goal of distributing free Stoic books (digital and print). The idea stemmed from Buddhists. They distribute a massive amount of books, trinkets, and even statues - for free. They do this because they believe it lessens the suffering in the world.
I eventually had many ebooks published on the site, both public domain works, and some books I wrote myself (e.g. Gems of Stoic Wisdom). But, I eventually abandoned the project, as it proved more difficult than I initially thought at the time.
Anyway, I came to Stoicism accidentally. My interest in Philosophy led me to order random books, one being the Meditations. That was perhaps in 2011 or 2012. Since then, I've followed this philosophy that we call Stoicism (although definitely not perfectly).
I plan to build more learning features into this site, and so much more. I'm glad you're here, and I look forward to having discussions with everyone!
